Scales of War
Stubborn Proprieter of Mountain's Hearth
Reggen is an attractive dwarven woman who takes her job as the owner of the Mountain’s Hearth seriously. She ensures that all her guests are well attended and cared for, and allows none of her staff to waste a guest’s time.
Reggen admits to some pressure from a local gang known as the Lost Ones. They have been stepping up the vandalism around her place since she refuses to pay “protection money” to them (24 Reaping, 1468 CY)
L aided Reggen in driving off the Lost Ones in one of their attempts to make her start paying the protection money (27 Reaping, 1468 CY)
Reggen sent the last of her serving girls home to keep them from getting hurt. The Lost Ones’ last attack spoiled all the food in the pantry and left one of the serving girls beaten bloody (though she took at least one down with her). Reggen now runs the Mountain’s Hearth by herself. (28 Reaping, 1468 CY)
The Hordebane comes to stay at the Mountain Hearth for a few days, and L asks if there is any way they can help Reggen (3, 4 Goodmonth, 1468 CY)
Reggen explains that they come every few days to remind her that paying the price they ask is only for her own good. Usually always a thug named Malik, and a few cronies. Sometimes there’s a halfling who seems more than just a crony, but she doesn’t know his name. She doesn’t know where they hole up, or much more information about them.
Someone attempts to start a fire in the stables while That Bitch and Jack are sleeping there. On another night, an incendiary device was set off outside of the stable and nearly caught the whole place on fire. Reggen and the Hordebane decided it was time to organize a watch schedule (4-6 Goodmonth, 1468 CY)
The Hordebane advertizes for the Mountain’s Hearth, encouraging adventurers to stay and protect the premises. A half-dozen adventurers respond on the first day, and only one of them (a ranger with a trained monkey) gets caught unawares by the Lost Ones and beaten within inches of his life (6 Goodmonth, 1468 CY)
The Hordebane returns from the Shadowfell to learn that many of the adventurers they recruited to protect Reggen have been scared off or require more incentive to stick around—the Lost Ones have been escalating. (14 Goodmonth, 1468 CY)
The Council of Elders agrees to help fund the protection and support of adventurers staying at Reggen’s establishment (and perhaps others who choose to defy the Lost Ones). (16 Goodmonth, 1468 CY)
Diony approaches Reggen in secret and requests her aid in a personal matter: if she can compromise her principles, leave town, or die, he’ll learn more of the woman who raised him. The meals at the Mountain’s Hearth suffer from Reggen’s distraction, but the ale flows freely after the parade honoring the Hordebane. (17 Goodmonth, 1468 CY)
Reggen secretly agrees to pay the protection money, though her cooking does not improve on the morrow (18 Goodmonth, 1468 CY)
Upon returning to Overlook, the Hordebane discovers the Mountain Hearth Inn empty, with Reggen nowhere to be found (12 Harvester, 1468 CY)
Irjan and the Hordebane manage to find Reggen. She has been hiding in safehouses throughout Overlook with Diony’s help over the last few weeks. She gives Tanner a low-power sending stone that will help her come to them so they won’t destroy her cover next time they come calling (13 Harvester, 1468 CY)
